About this podcast show...
Aside from all the lighter stories in Reel Pod...the show also includes parody spots between news segments, celebrity birthdays and a parody song every episode from 'Slammy Sammy' Putney (Levon's late father Sam, who sang the songs produced by Wig, while both were part of K104's top rated Skip Murphy & Co morning show in Dallas/Ft Worth). Houston native and 80s/90s L.A. radio host/Sam's longtime friend Mike Mann plays the DJ introing the song. Special thanks also to NYC radio anchor/personality Anita Bonita and actor/overall radio guru Russ DiBello (parody ad voices/tech support :), Cleveland radio producer/host/voice of God 'Big Daddy' Marty Allen (intro/outro voice) and NYC's 94.7 The Block Afternoon Host/fellow Third Ward native and Jack Yates grad Shelley Wade (section lead voice) .
And about the host...
Levon is from Third Ward in Houston Texas, graduated from The University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Journalism, and starting in the late 90s worked at Zimmer Radio Group in Columbia(1997-98) and WENY radio/tv in Elmira NY(99-2000), before reporting for WTAM 1100 in Cleveland(2000-06) and reporting and anchoring at WCBS 880 in New York City from 2006 until the owners pulled the plug on the historic station in Aug of 2024. That sudden bout of unemployment left Levon with time to then create Reel Pod, since a recurring theme in complaints about news is it's too depressing and divisive.
