I started this podcast for folks like me who love those comical, bizarre stories of things happening in the world that will many times get 'kicked' out of newscasts altogether, or 'kicked' further down to the end of casts, where these stories are often summarized for a quick smile, without time given to really giving the audience a good laugh that some good, old fashioned storytelling can provoke. I also started it, because the newsradio station I worked for got its plug pulled by the owner, so I suddenly had free time...to write up and tell stories the way I've REALLY always wanted to do them-- with applicable curse words, adult and childish humor along with occasional f**ks to give. Because I care. Also, because I want everyone to enjoy this as much as I enjoy putting this all together :)

So, these casts are filled with suspected criminals suspected of being criminally stupid, along with some of the wilder things happening here in the U.S and around the world that leave us all drop-jawed, and monkeys. I love monkeys, I love saying monkeys, and I think everyone loves them like I do, so yes...monkeys :)

Plus, brief "news breaks" are filled with parody ads I've had a ball creating, and they feature voices of radio/news colleagues, relatives and friends kind enough to help...casts also include clips of old songs from my late father Sam "Slammy Sammy" Putney's days as part of the top rated Skip Murphy & Company morning show on K104 in Dallas (90s through 2000s), with producer Wig's blessing. And...celebrity birthdays! Listeners enjoyed them when I ran them while anchoring on WCBS, so figured I'd bring those back. Reel Pod is just meant to be a reminder that News Casts can be enjoyed.

These podcast waters are deep. A lot of us are offering a lot of choices, so I appreciate all the listeners who keep diving in to roll with me.

It's funny to think I've been a radio reporter and anchor in different markets for over a quarter of a doggone century. Time flies. This has been a heck of a ride...from Mid-Missouri to upstate New York then Cleveland and now New York/New Jersey...covering stories that took me from a Formula 1 driver taking me for a lap, to hugging a mom whose son was just killed... and from city hall and state politics to an emu once pecking the hell out of my index finger.

HERE'S THE THING: I LOVE WRITING AND TELLING THE BEST STORIES POSSIBLE, WHICH USUALLY MAKE AUDIENCES LAUGH, CRY, YELL AND CURSE. MAYBE ALL OF THE ABOVE AT ONCE.

Since it is so much more fun to make people laugh, especially in a world that can sometimes make us all want to do anything but giggle, I think I'd rather have fun. Besides...there are no shortages of headline news providers, political analysis and in-depth social coverage. There is, however, a distinct shortage of...monkeys. And other lighter, fun stories I think people would enjoy.
